Open Mic Guidelines

Before Going up to Pray:

  1. Make sure you pray about the topic that the Prayer Leader has announced.
  2. Decide who you are going to pray for.
  3. Decide what you are going to pray for.
  4. Choose a Biblical Prayer or Prophetic Promise of scripture to use to pray from (ask the Assistant Prayer Leader for help if you cannot find one).
  5. If you are not sure when to go up to the microphone wait for the Assistant Prayer Leader’s signal.

Prayer Outline When Using the Open Mic:

  1. Announce the scripture reference you are using.
  2. Say who you are praying for.
  3. Say what you are praying for.
  4. Read through the Biblical Prayer or Prophetic Promise.
  5. Pray for no more then 3-5 minutes.
  6. If you want to open with a shorter prayer you also have the option of staying at the mic and inserting prayers while the singers are singing.
  7. End your prayer by isolating a phrase from the scripture for the singers to sing.

Example Opening:

“Praying from Ephesians 1, verses 17-19.  Praying for the Church in DFW, asking that God would give them understanding that would lead to abandonment for Christ.”

Things to Avoid:

  1. Please respect the Open Mic as being for prayer only.
  2. Focus your prayer and proclamations directly to God.
  3. Do not address the room or spiritual forces.
  4. Do not address the room.
  5. Do not pray in tongues or sing on the microphone.
